Mortgage Rates Dip to 2‑Week Lows After Biggest Drop in Months
Mortgage Rates took a welcome step down today, landing at their lowest levels in about two weeks. The average top‑tier 30‑year fixed rate fell 0.09%, marking the fastest daily improvement in roughly three months.
Interestingly, the day didn’t start on a positive note — rates actually opened 0.01% higher than yesterday. But lenders quickly shifted gears, issuing multiple mid‑day price reductions as markets moved.
 Why Rates Fell Today
There wasn’t a single headline driving the drop. Mid‑day news tied to the Iran conflict helped a bit, but the bigger influence came from investor behavior.
Bond yields have climbed high enough that many investors now see them as an attractive entry point. When yields feel “too high,” investors tend to step back in — buying bonds pushes yields down, and mortgage rates often follow.Â
This doesn’t guarantee a long-term slide, but it does suggest that recent rate ceilings may continue to act as a natural barrier unless new data pushes markets in the opposite direction.
Bottom Line: The next major market mover arrives mid‑week: fresh inflation reports on Wednesday and Thursday. These releases carry real weight and could easily shift rate momentum again.
